I grew up in the 50's in a family of four children. It wasn't considered big at that time. My husband and I raised four children from the 70"s, and most of our friends had 3 or less. My oldest child has four little ones, and she is getting comments all over the place about being a "saint."

I wish all my children were as open to new life as she has been.

OK...so here are my thoughts.

Confidence is the ability to do something without fear of failure. There's a knowledge that you can, and will, complete something well.

Humility is the acknowledgement that your talents, work, etc is not yours. And so you aren't working for praise or to be noticed.

Can they coexist? Yep.

I had confidence that we would adopt a child, but the humility to know that it wouldn't be because of anything I did, knew, or contributed, but simply because the God of the Universe had a plan for me and is able to give me what I need to follow through.

The first step to limiting children to one or two, once the idea that the government has the authentic authority to regulate conscience and freedom in the number of children a family has. The best gift parents can give their children are siblings. Brothers and sisters care for each other, even when grown. Who will be there for only children? So, the state is really imposing on the community, tresspassing on the personal conscience "or prohibit the free exercise thereof" and destroying freedom of choice for the people willing to care and nurture children. The state must prove in a court of law that a particular family is incapable of raising more than the number the state has made into law. Perhaps it is a move against Michelle Backman???

I think it is sad that the world doesn't realize that the perfect type of family (assuming there are no major emotional issues, etc.) to adopt children IS a large family, as those of us who have many children are much better equipped to make the required adjustments to transition more children into the family. Not saying that small families shouldn't adopt, but that the large family is already uniquely equipped to adopt by its very nature.

It's interesting that you had an abortion and felt the guilt from it. I too had an abortion with my first, and felt the guilt for a long, long time....Especially since the abortion was my (then) fiance's idea, and it would have been a biological older sibling to my son, whom I gave birth to 2 years later.
I've been a pro-lifer ever since, and the ability to adopt our daughter (20 years after the birth of my son) has given me the response that I must have done something right to deserve her. She's brought me to a whole new level of love, acceptance, and understanding beyond my own little world. I feel so blessed to have both of my children....and another on the way through adoption again, (hopefully within the next two years).

Words are not enough. I suppose it does keep the babies out of the harsh winter elements, whereas, in China, the children are abandoned and sometimes not in the best of places nor the best of exposure to the harsh environment.
Most of the time, children are abandoned in safe areas in China though. And I believe many times the one "finding" the child is actually a family member, who takes the child directly to the police station.
I can't help but wonder, though, in either situation, if a birth mother goes to sleep with a baby in her arms, and then awakens with that baby just gone because a family member decides the baby (or the family) is better off. I can't even imagine the grieving process that must occur with the postpartum birth mother, regardless of how the child is separated from her.

Alec is as intelligent as he is funny as he is fun as he is inquisitive. And your other kids are great with him! You two must be terrific parents to have such bright and loving children. I was smiling all the way through that. Oh in the eyes of a child! Even taking meds is an experiment and a game. Loved the way he ate the ice cream and kind of cringed at the coldness of it. Everything is going to be so new to him. Has he grieved at all? He doesnt seem to be, yet. Perhaps it's because everything is such a new adventure for him. And he seems to enjoy the excitement of it all.

I cant believe how much you take it all in stride. Love the way you talk talk talk to him, and he is just interested in the world around him. Reminds me of my own daughter, and she's spoken English for the past 4 years...lol Oh and BTW, she LOVES the beginning of your videos...When she hears it from the other room, she comes running. So I guess I was wrong about changing the beginnings. Cant wait to see how he responds to his brothers and sisters. He is SOOOO methodical, he is going to adapt just fine. Love his smiles, he lights up the world with his smiles.
