THE GIFT OF A MOTHER (My Mother's Day Wish for Taylor)

What do you want for Mother’s Day?” I usually hear this question at some point one or two weeks prior to the holiday. I love the flowers my husband gives me. I love being showered by kisses and breakfast in bed from my kids. I love being a mother. I love that my kids who were once orphaned and left without their mothers now have a mother to shower their love on. So, I hope my friends and family reading this will understand that my heart is broken for the motherless 163 million orphaned children lost without the hope of a mother to ever make toast for or bring a cup of tea to on Mother’s Day. My heart also grieves for the women around the world who long to be mothers but can’t due to infertility or lack of adoption funds. So, from the depths of my soul I am asking all of you to join me in connecting the dots in uniting a little girl who we (for now) call Taylor with the best gift in the world in the form of a mother. My friend Nicole is the woman who has conceived this 7 year old child in her heart and is only disconnected from her now due to lack of funds in adopting her. Nicole is an awesome woman and an incredible mother who recently adopted a teen from Ukraine named Kolya. Taylor is HIV+ and has less of a possibility of finding a mother due to her status. Nicole and her husband Joe have faith that God will somehow provide even though they have exhausted all of their savings on the adoption of Kolya and other orphan advocacy that they have poured their lives into.

If any of you are like me and want to do something really significant for Mother’s Day, please consider what a lasting impact the gift of a mother would mean to a little girl like Taylor who is HIV+. Dozens of roses will fade, wilt and be thrown in the trash within days of Mother’s Day. The clothing, perfume and chocolates are all things that will either melt, evaporate or be thrown in the give-away bin. A gesture in helping Nicole to raise the approximately $26k she needs to bring Taylor home will mean that on this Mother’s Day you have been honored as a mother in a way that will impact the world and a child significantly. I am contributing out of respect for my living mother Shirley, my deceased grandmothers and the mothers of my 5 (once orphaned) children. And it will be an honor and joy to my heart if my husband and children spend my flower and gift money this year to help bring Nicole and Taylor (Mom and daughter) together. If you would like to honor your Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Daughter or Friend in a very special way please consider contributing to Taylor’s adoption fund. Or consider contributing airline miles for flights for Nicole and her family. You will receive a very special thank you note and a picture to pray over for Taylor. The best gift will be in just knowing that your small contribution paid off significantly and will never fade, dissolve or be forgotten.
