Runaway Rabbit (Adoption Grant)-Mother the World

THese women(Gayla Warner and Laura Jones) have an incredible company called RUNAWAY RABBIT. Their products are super cute (bunny slippers, bunny ears) and have been seen on major TV shows like DANCING WITH THE STARS..They also give back proceeds to an adoption grant every year. I love their story of becoming stay at home moms and then starting a business that gives back. I also love their attitude. Very upbeat fun women...The grant is called GIFT OF ADOPTION fund.

Intro for MOTHER THE WORLD/Christian Appalachian Project

Christian Appalachian Project!

So, I just returned from our tour of CHRISTIAN APPALACHIAN PROJECT in Eastern KY. This organization is the 12th largest human services charity in the US. They serve over 30,000 eastern Kentuckians each year. They also have a program called Operation Sharing which provides assistance to all 13 Appalachian states (reaching over 2 million people). It is a faith based organization originally founded in 1964 by Father Ralph Beiting. The organization is ecumenical and is committed to stewardship, innovation and excellence in its missions and community-based services.

Another interesting fact is that Eastern App is home to 38 of the most distressed counties in America...the unemployment rate is 50%. For those wanting to work even a minimum wage job it is difficult because transportation to and from the adjoining communities is rare. So, CAP provides assistance to those struggling with poverty issues....Some of the programs are as follows:

Child and family development, substance abuse recovery programs, educational and recreational programs, spouse abuse shelters, housing, family advocacy, elderly services, respite center, food pantry, thrift store, operation sharing, disaster relief.

Mother the WORLD spent 2 days speaking to volunteers who are truly mothering and modeling Christ through showing love, compassion and support to the people of Eastern KY....we will attach a handful of videos...if interested in participating as a volunteer please go to CHRISTIAN APPALACHIAN PROJECT.

Kentucky Day One - Mother the World

Today we had a great time in Bowling Green. When I return later in the week I will edit some videos. In a nutshell this was what I did. Elaine Bateman is Mrs. Kentucky and the Ambassador for MOTHER THE WORLD. Anyhow, we first met this morning at Starbucks with the two women who run RUNAWAY RABBIT. They are Gayla Warner and Laura Jones. They make these amazing products (bunny slippers, ears, flip flops...). They also give proceeds of their sales to an organization that offers adoption grants. So we discussed moving from work to motherhood back to work and how they manage that.

Next we went to Family Christian bookstore for a book signing in Bowling Green. We did not advertise so didn't have a big turn out.

Next we spontaneously visited the pregnancy center here and also got to hold twin babies (boy and girl -9 months old)..INCREDIBLE visit.

Next we met with Mary Lou Kirby 2007 Mother of the Year from Bowling Green KY....she was incredible...had so much to say and impart to us about motherhood and the different generations of women and the difficulties that we faced and face as mothers...

Tomorrow I take a trip with Cody and Elaine to APPALACHIA to look around....and get a lay of the land. It should be a fantastic visit.

Will update with video later...
