Christian Appalachian Project!

So, I just returned from our tour of CHRISTIAN APPALACHIAN PROJECT in Eastern KY. This organization is the 12th largest human services charity in the US. They serve over 30,000 eastern Kentuckians each year. They also have a program called Operation Sharing which provides assistance to all 13 Appalachian states (reaching over 2 million people). It is a faith based organization originally founded in 1964 by Father Ralph Beiting. The organization is ecumenical and is committed to stewardship, innovation and excellence in its missions and community-based services.

Another interesting fact is that Eastern App is home to 38 of the most distressed counties in America...the unemployment rate is 50%. For those wanting to work even a minimum wage job it is difficult because transportation to and from the adjoining communities is rare. So, CAP provides assistance to those struggling with poverty issues....Some of the programs are as follows:

Child and family development, substance abuse recovery programs, educational and recreational programs, spouse abuse shelters, housing, family advocacy, elderly services, respite center, food pantry, thrift store, operation sharing, disaster relief.

Mother the WORLD spent 2 days speaking to volunteers who are truly mothering and modeling Christ through showing love, compassion and support to the people of Eastern KY....we will attach a handful of videos...if interested in participating as a volunteer please go to CHRISTIAN APPALACHIAN PROJECT.
